Usually, I put it in water. How much is enough juice in the water? Water is supposed to be sour, if I put it in there?

Lemon juice works, but not by the mechanism “dissolving the stone with acidity” most people think. Our kidneys cannot product urine that is very acidic (max out at about pH 3, which is definitely acidic, but not even close to the pH of strong acids).
Moreover, there are different types of kidney stones, and you definitely don’t want to make your urine acidic if you have uric acid stones (because it’ll make things worse).
The rationale for drinking lemon juice is for the citric acid, which in the body turns into citrate ion, and citrate is an important natural inhibitor of kidney stone formation.
For those not afraid to read scientific language, here is a study showing drinking lemon juice actually increasing citrate concentration in the urine:http://www.koreamed.org/SearchBasic.php?…
For those preferring to read plain English:http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/2…
Anyway, from both sources you can see that you need to drink QUITE A BIT of lemon juice per day (1 to 1.5 liters, which is about 1/3 of a gallon). Don’t use store-bought lemonade — too much sugar.
Finally, drinking water is still THE best way to prevent kidney stones, and it works for ALL kinds of kidney stones. And water is less likely to give you stomach upset, so if I were you, I’d simply drink water instead!
    Hope that helps.

i have always heard of cranberry juice to help with your kidneys. one of the important things to prevent kidney stones is to not to have a lot of milk products. take a calcium product instead. both the lemon juice and cranberry juice help the stone to be flushed out. but sometimes the stone is too big to pass and surgery is to be performed. my mother has at least one kidney stone a year ever since she had a gastic bypass done. as soon as she feels that pain, she downs more liquids than normal, no sodas….or milk products. i hope this info helped you a little.

although i have heard of lemon juice dissolving renal stones i believe it is a myth. however taking a lot of fluids including lemon juice can help in diuresis and help relieve the pain caused by renal stones.
