I’m unsure about your question.
Do you have a kidney stone now and you’d like to get rid of it?
Or are you wondering what you do to prevent kidney stones if you are prone to getting them?
To answer your first question, it depends. It really depends on the size of the stone. If it’s small enough to be passed, then lots of water (2 to 3 quarts a day) can get the stone moving and it should pass in a few days. Your doctor may give you some pain medication to take during the process.
If it is bigger and can’t normally pass, there are several non-surgical methods to get the stone out, and several surgical methods as well.
If you are prone to getting kidney stones, prevention depends on the type of stones you get. You could get them because you have family history, or you have some disease or condition that results in stones. The most common cause for kidney stones is family history, and most of them form calcium oxalate stones. For those folks, they should avoid foods high in oxalates (listed from highest to lowest):
* rhubarb
* spinach
* beets
* swiss chard
* wheat germ
* soybean crackers
* peanuts
* okra
* chocolate
* black Indian tea
* sweet potatoes
These foods are medium-oxalate foods, listed from highest to lowest. People prone to calcium oxalate stones can eat these foods in moderation:
* grits
* grapes
* celery
* green pepper
* red raspberries
* fruit cake
* strawberries
* marmalade
* liver

I feel for you… been there twice, once when I was 4 months pregnant and the other when I actually needed surgery to remove it! What I found out is that stones are caused by calcium build up, so try staying away for dairy. The Dr. also told me that cranberry juice DOESN’T help for stones, so stay away from that as well. Drinking plenty of water should help eliminate the calcium build up…
Yes! drink lots and lots and lots of water, they will pass through, if 2 days or so go by and it doesnt get better, go to the doctor, they may have to be lasered down because they are too large to pass through. take lots of azo’s, it can ease pain! goodluck!
Treatment at the hospital. But what you can do personally to help yourself – it’s a first of all – dont drink a beer or alcohol & no spicy food…
Drink plently of water and go to the toilet regularly?
