16 year old male. . . first stone. . been in pain for three weeks. Doc want s to remove. can't see stone on ct ultrasound or dye/x-ray. Wouldn't surgery be dangerous ? How long can you safely go without it?

    The surgery is relatively safe. You haven’t said what type of surgery, but I assume it’s a cystoscopy, which is going up the urethra through your penis, and looking around with a scope to find the stone. That scope can also remove the stone, usually.
    They may also want to do this because they can’t see the stone on their scans. They want to look in there to see what is really happening.
    This is a pretty low-impact procedure because there is no incision involved, they go into the urethral opening. You will have some soreness afterwards, but they’ll give you pain meds for that, and it will be much nicer than trying to pass a stone.
